Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent times, the increasing prevalence of product choices based on geological region has generated considerable debate. Although this movement offers several notable advantages like promoting small business and trusting community vendors, it also presents certain drawbacks such as less competitiveness should not be overlooked.

To commence with, the biggest advantage of this trend is local shopkeepers get boost to run their business as they get consistent buyers with in a region. Shopping from near by shops help to generate sales by doing so these small businesses pay taxes to local municipal corporation which later develop infrastructure. The Survey of Oxford University depicts that the regions where citizens often buy products from their locality are 35 percentage more progressive. Furthermore, masses have more faith in local producers because most often it is seen in small towns almost everyone knows everyone. Locals can visit to farms if they are buying vegetables and fruits and they can directly ask owners if they any concerns. This thing helps to build trust between seller and buyer.

On the flip side, the significant setback of this trend is manufacturers of different place have to go through unfair contest no matter how good quality their product is still they can not charge premium or even a reasonable price. This practice may kills the sense of competitiveness in the market and in long run local businesses may charge desired prices.

To conclude, although this trend may bring certain drawbacks , I firmly believe that is largely a positive owing to its impact.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding the 'unfair contest' and the potential for local businesses to charge 'desired prices' is a relevant point, but it lacks depth and specific examples to fully support the argument. While the mention of an Oxford University survey adds a touch of academic tone, the supporting arguments in the second paragraph could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is relevant and meets the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the flip side' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'This thing helps to build trust'. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within the second paragraph could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the essay maintains a consistent focus on the topic throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'prevalence', 'geological region', and 'progressive'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'geological region' (which is factually incorrect in this context; 'geographical' or 'local' would be better) and 'This practice may kills' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of precision and occasional misuse of terms prevent a higher score. Expanding the range of topic-specific vocabulary would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Examples include 'local shopkeepers get boost to run their business' (missing articles), 'as they get consistent buyers with in a region' (incorrect preposition/spacing), and 'if they any concerns' (missing verb). The subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, such as 'This practice may kills'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not completely obscure the meaning of the text.
