Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, covering health benefits, economic growth, and social advantages like job creation for teenagers. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between local produce and preventing criminal activity is a bit tenuous and lacks depth. While the position is clear throughout, the essay would benefit from more detailed examples or a more nuanced exploration of the potential downsides to achieve a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for the trend to the evaluation of its impact. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Apart from this', 'First and foremost', and 'In addition to this', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, although the connection between sentences could be smoother in the second paragraph. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the reader can follow the argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using less common vocabulary, such as 'preservatives', 'flourish', and 'environment friendly'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'The one of the prominent reason' and 'According to the prons'. Spelling errors like 'opportiunities', 'partcipate', 'activites', and 'soceity' are present. While these do not impede communication, they limit the score as the range is not sufficiently flexible or precise for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('The one of the prominent reason'), subject-verb agreement ('locals are gettings'), and prepositional usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in sentence construction that require the reader to re-read for clarity. The majority of sentences contain minor errors, which prevents the essay from reaching the 7.0 band, where frequent error-free sentences are expected.
