Student answer (Band 5.0)

In commercial market, there are huge type of variety in the market but still some of the consumers are prioritizing to buy stuffs from their local market instead of imported stuffs. This essay is giving various reasons behind it followed by my opinion upon this trend.

To commence with, the major and the most convenient reason is quality of the goods which is more trustable in local area because we can investigate by ourselves as per our choice. Whereas in imported goods there are no one who will take responsibilities after purchasing. Furthermore, the expense of imported goods are much more than the local ones owing to different taxes were included. Moreover, the raw materials of the items are known so you can make an estimate of the quality.

This trend have some positive effects such as low prices and low maintenance

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 142 words. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially. While the essay introduces reasons for buying local goods, the development of these ideas is severely limited. The second paragraph touches on quality and cost, but the arguments are underdeveloped and lack specific examples. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete; it cuts off abruptly after mentioning positive effects, failing to provide a conclusion or a balanced discussion of whether the trend is positive or negative. This lack of completion and insufficient length significantly impacts the overall task response score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses some basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the logical progression is interrupted by the abrupt ending of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the overall structure. Referencing is generally clear, but the limited length prevents the development of a cohesive argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed with a clear topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding thought, and ensure the essay reaches the required length to allow for a logical flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'huge type of variety' and 'stuffs' are informal and imprecise. The word 'stuffs' is used incorrectly as a plural noun, which is a common error. While the student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary such as 'imported goods', 'raw materials', and 'maintenance', the range is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To achieve a higher band, the student should focus on using more academic vocabulary, avoiding informal fillers, and ensuring correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. For example, 'In commercial market' lacks an article, 'there are huge type of variety' is grammatically incorrect, and 'This trend have' shows a subject-verb agreement error. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak. To improve, the student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and expanding the range of sentence structures by using subordinating conjunctions and relative clauses effectively.
