Student answer (Band 5.0)

In commercial market, there are huge type of variety in the market but still some of the consumers are prioritizing to buy stuffs from their local market instead of imported stuffs. This essay is giving various reasons behind it followed by my opinion upon this trend.

To commence with, the major and the most convenient reason is quality of the goods which is more trustable in local area because we can investigate by ourselves as per our choice. Whereas in imported goods there are no one who will take responsibilities after purchasing. Furthermore, the expense of imported goods are much more than the local ones owing to different taxes were included. Moreover, the raw materials of the items are known so you can make an estimate of the quality.

This trend have some positive effects such as low prices and low maintenance and also having guarantee on all the stuffs.

On the other hand, there are also having negative effects that people are not aware of the numerous variety of different flavors of different food items .

In conclusion, if people going to buy imported good than first they should know everything about that thing by searching about it. Consumers should believe in some of the relevant items that approved by the government laws. Government should make some guidelines for imported goods as they fulfil this criteria than and than they can provide the licence for import goods from one country to another.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for buying local and offering an opinion on the trend. However, the development of ideas is limited and lacks depth. For instance, the reasons provided (quality and price) are mentioned but not sufficiently supported with specific examples or logical elaboration. The conclusion introduces new, somewhat irrelevant suggestions about government regulation rather than summarising the main arguments. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which restricts the ability to fully develop the response. To improve, you should expand on your points with concrete examples and ensure your conclusion reflects the arguments already presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is weak. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand'), they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The transition between the reasons and the opinion is abrupt. Additionally, the paragraphing is inconsistent, with some very short paragraphs that lack sufficient development. To improve, focus on using cohesive devices to link sentences more naturally and ensure each paragraph contains a clear, well-developed central idea that flows logically into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'stuffs' (which is informal and grammatically incorrect in this context) and 'things'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'commercial market' instead of 'the marketplace' and 'trustable' instead of 'reliable'. The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to economics, trade, and consumer behaviour.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'there are huge type of variety', 'there are no one', 'the expense of imported goods are', and 'this trend have'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar, such as subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, is inconsistent. Punctuation is also problematic, with some sentences being run-on or incorrectly structured. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
