Student answer (Band 6.0)
People nowadays are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced locally, rather than imported goods because it enhances employment rates in the region and consumers have more trust on their local manufactures. I believe this is a positive trend because it provides a better shopping experience for the buyers.
To begin with, buyers are choosing to purchase goods from their local manufactures. This is because it allows buyers to buy their favorite items without travelling to a larger distance. It also provides the best return or exchange policy because consumers do not have to courier their damaged good for a return. For example, if a buyer receives a damaged product, he needs to approach his local buyer can get it replaced. Moreover, it saves time and earns trust between a buyer and a shopkeeper. As a result, people like to buy goods from their local vendors, instead of going to the shopping centers.
I personally believe that this is a positive trend. This is because it enhances the overall employments rates in the region. Also, it motivates people to start their own career in manufacturing to live a better life. For example, a local vendor with high sales may encourage his friends or neighbors to start their own business for a better earnings. Therefore, it decreases the number of unemployed people in that area. As a result, the young generation will set a goal in their lives and start earning for a better livelihood.
To conclude, people who buy goods from local manufactures encourage other people to earn. Therefore, it drops the unemployment rates of the region. Moreover, it improves the overall shopping experience for the consumers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and whether it is a positive or negative trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The reasons provided—convenience and return policies—are somewhat narrow and focus more on retail logistics than the broader economic or environmental implications of 'local vs. imported' goods. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated. For instance, the link between local shopping and 'employment rates' is mentioned but lacks depth or specific examples beyond general statements. To reach a higher band, you should explore the wider impact of local production, such as carbon footprint reduction or community economic resilience.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation of the trend. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, such as in the sentence 'if a buyer receives a damaged product, he needs to approach his local buyer can get it replaced', which contains a grammatical error that disrupts the flow. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the range of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the natural flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'manufactures' (though this is used incorrectly as a noun for 'manufacturers'), 'unemployment rates', and 'livelihood'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of word-choice errors, such as using 'manufactures' instead of 'manufacturers' or 'vendors'. The repetition of simple phrases like 'better life' and 'better earnings' suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms to demonstrate more sophisticated control. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'consumers have more trust on their local manufactures' (should be 'trust in' and 'manufacturers'), and 'he needs to approach his local buyer can get it replaced' (which is a run-on or missing a conjunction). Punctuation is generally correct, but the frequency of these minor grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are correctly linked with appropriate conjunctions or relative pronouns.
