Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people prefer buying locally produced goods rather than imported ones. There are plenty of logical reasons for this trend to prove this action to be highly positive and beneficial.
First of all, buying local food is cost-efficient. In other words, consumers will pay only for the products they are purchasing and not for the whole expensive shipping process. For example, in India, an imported avocado costs around 5 dollars each, while an Indian avocado will cost them only a dollar. Secondly, they want to avoid additional chemicals as much as possible and buy organic ingredients. Although preservatives are sprayed to keep the vegetables longer, they lead to serious health complications. For instance, a study showed that people living in villages and eating fresh food with no preservatives suffered 59% less than those buying internationally grown and shipped products.
This action of supporting local products is an absolutely positive trend and would inexorable bring benefits to the economy of their country. In the long term, if the rate of imports decreases and the currency stays in the nation, we will witness an added value to the currency. As a result, the country would reach real independence. To illustrate, the Chinese government deprived the whole country of importing and forced the companies to work and produce higher quality goods in China to make people buy national goods. Consequently, today China is known as a main hub of production and is the most independent nation in the world.
In conclusion, individuals are inclined to purchase locally produced goods , especially edible ingredients because they are more cost-efficient and they contain less preservatives to be healthier. Therefore, this trend is absolutely positive since it supports their national economic growth to a huge extent to become an independent nation like China.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing clear reasons for the trend (cost-efficiency and health concerns) and a definitive stance on its positive nature. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the comparison of avocado prices and the reference to China's economic policy. However, the development of the 'positive trend' argument could be more nuanced; while the China example is interesting, it is a broad generalization that borders on oversimplification. Overall, the position is clear throughout, and the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'In other words', 'Secondly', and 'Consequently' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the topic. The progression of ideas is smooth, although the transition between the health benefits and the economic argument could be slightly more refined to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. The student uses some precise terms like 'cost-efficient', 'preservatives', and 'economic growth'. There are minor issues with word choice, such as 'inexorable bring' (should be 'inexorably bring') and 'deprived the whole country of importing' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the range is adequate to convey complex ideas clearly, and the errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and complex structures are attempted with reasonable success. However, there are a few persistent errors, such as 'less preservatives' (should be 'fewer preservatives') and the aforementioned adverb/adjective confusion in 'inexorable bring'. Punctuation is generally accurate, though there is an unnecessary space before the comma in 'goods ,'. The majority of sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear.
