Student answer (Band 6.0)

Markets have emerged to fulfill the basic needs of buyers. Few individuals prefer to buy local products over the imported due to several economic and social reasons. This occurring is positive as it helps to enhance the GDP of their own country. I will explain my views towards this notion after describing the root cause.

Firstly, the primary reason is the social values of society. To explain it, the items made in the origin nation carries moral as well ethical values which triggers the emotion of people, makes them addicted to the similar good that they use to have in childhood. Additionally, local population has more loyalty towards the local things. Economic conditions are another cardinal reason behind this occurrence as imported objects are costlier than the local ones. For example, the imported goods contain 20% of imported charges which increase their cost. Thus, people tend to buy from local retailer instead of international market.

Furthermore, it contributes to the gross development of country. Despite having numerous benefits, it has drawbacks as well is creates barriers in individual development and people are unable to get aware about the modern technology. Moreover, it becomes obstacle in growth also because of the shortage of sources. For instance, expensive imported gadgets makes the lives easy by saving time and energy. Hence, it provides the time to invest in personal and physical development.

In conclusion, it seems to me that every coin has two sides, but we cannot neglect the demerit points as development is crucial. Contrarily, the financial condition is considerable therefore, all the individuals could not afford them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation of social values is a bit vague, and the argument regarding the 'drawbacks' of local products is slightly confusing, as it conflates the lack of imported goods with a general inability to access modern technology. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments would benefit from more precise examples and deeper analysis to move beyond a surface-level discussion. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly,' 'Additionally,' and 'Furthermore,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'This occurring is positive' or 'the demerit points.' Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the final conclusion lacks a strong summary statement that ties the entire argument together effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. There are some instances of awkward phrasing and non-standard collocations, such as 'makes them addicted to the similar good' and 'gross development of country.' While the meaning is generally clear, the word choice is often repetitive or slightly imprecise. To improve, you should focus on using more natural collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and consumer behavior.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'the items made in the origin nation carries' (subject-verb agreement), 'is creates barriers' (missing subject), and 'all the individuals could not afford them' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels slightly unnatural. While these errors do not prevent communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of complex grammatical structures.
