Student answer (Band 7.0)
In the modern era, people's buying habits are changing. Many consumers prefer to buy locally produced goods isntead of imported products. This essay will elucidate the reasons for this tred, and I will explain why I believe it is a positive development in the subsequent paragraphs.
To commence with, one of the main reasons people choose locally produced goods is that they are fresher and of better quality. This is beacuse local products travel shorter distances before reaching stores, so they remain fresh and nutritious. To exemplify, vegetables and fruits bought from local farmers are usually harvested only a day or two before they are sold, unlike imported products, which may spend weeks in transportation. Therefore, the fresher and better the quality of local goods, the more likely people are to buy them instead of imported products.
Another important reason is the growing awareness of the environmental impact international transportation. This is because importing goods from other countries requires long-distance shipping, which increases fuel consumption and pollution. As a result, this tranportationprocess releases a large amount of carbon emissions into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming and climate change. Therefore, many consumers choose locally produced goods in order tp reduce their environmental footprint and protect the environment.
To further solidify my opinion, I believe this trend is a positive development because purchasing local goods supports domestic businesses and creates employment opportunities. When consumers buy products made in their own region, local farmers, manufactures and small business owners recevie greater financial supoort, which strengthens the national economy. For example, If people buy vegetables from local farmers instead of imported ones, the farmers can increase their income and employ more workers. Hence, not only does buying locally produced goods support the local economy but also creates more job opportunities for people in the community.
In conculsion, locally produced goods are increasingly being chosen because freshness, quality and evironmental sustainability are valued by people. In my prespective, this is a positive trend as it promotes economic growth, creates jobs and contributes to environment protection.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the task. You clearly identify reasons for the trend (freshness and environmental impact) and express a clear position that it is a positive development. The ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as the comparison between local and imported produce. The structure is logical, and the position is maintained throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are fully explored; for instance, you could briefly acknowledge potential counter-arguments or limitations to the 'local' trend to demonstrate a more nuanced perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and ideas progress logically. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'As a result', and 'Hence' to link your points effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between ideas is easy to follow. To improve, ensure that the transition between the reasons and the evaluation of the trend is even more seamless to enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'environmental footprint', 'economic growth', and 'nutritious' are used appropriately. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'isntead', 'tred', 'beacuse', 'tranportationprocess', 'tp', 'recevie', 'supoort', 'conculsion', 'evironmental', and 'prespective'. While these do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading your work for these minor slips would significantly improve your lexical profile.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively, such as the conditional sentence 'If people buy vegetables... the farmers can increase their income'. Most sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are occasional errors, such as the missing preposition in 'impact [of] international transportation' and the minor error in 'not only... but also' structure usage. However, these errors are non-systematic and do not cause difficulty for the reader. The control of grammar is generally good, and the punctuation is mostly accurate.
