Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few locals are supporting their community by consuming more of the local produce, rather than importing from different regions. I believe this makes a very good impact on the local businesses and also gives them opportunities to start new ventures in their town.

To begin with, supporting local produce is a great initiative. Since citizens know what they are consuming as well as the materials that are used during the manufacturing process are healthy. It also brings huge impact on economy as well as interests of new business to grow. For example, it has been recorded that citizens who support their local businesses has shown upward trend in the terms of growth as well as way of living in that city.

Moreover, since the government has imposed high taxes on imports. This has recorded an inflation in the market. This makes the produces which are imported from different regions or countries very pricy and impossible for locals to buy. It has been seen, the number of inflated goods has drastically changed the way of living as well as food habits. Since this issue can be solved by producing locally rather than importing materials from outside. Therefore, it has shown upward trend in the new generation to support local businesses. Since they are much cheaper and fresh than goods which are imported.

To conclude, to grow the community it is very important for businesses to make money as well as grow locally. Supporting these produce from local rather than importing has shown beneficial trends of growth in one community. Making this as an opportunity for many youngsters to start new ventures in their own city. Therefore, this trend of buying local produce is very beneficial to increase economy as well as to reduce the inflation in the products which are necessary in daily life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding government taxes and inflation is a bit confusing and lacks a clear logical link to local production. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more specific and better elaborated to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements, but the analysis remains at a somewhat superficial level, often repeating the idea of 'growth' without providing concrete examples or deeper insight into the economic or social mechanisms involved.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Since this issue can be solved... Therefore, it has shown upward trend'. Additionally, there are instances where the referencing is unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'citizens who support their local businesses' and the 'upward trend' is vague. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the flow between sentences could be smoother.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'manufacturing process', 'inflation', and 'ventures'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'makes a very good impact' (should be 'has a positive impact') and 'the produces which are imported' (should be 'the products'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the repetition of words like 'growth' and 'local' suggests a need for a broader range of synonyms to improve the sophistication of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('citizens who support their local businesses has shown') and incorrect sentence fragments ('Moreover, since the government has imposed high taxes on imports. This has recorded...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with 'Since' or 'Therefore' in a way that creates fragmented clauses. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to limit the score in this criterion.
