Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent times, buyers are significantly preferring local markets to purchase most of their products, instead of imported ones from other areas. This trend is mainly driven by the more awareness towards environment and people willing to assist local businesses. I believe that this trend has positive development to the society.

To begin with, the imported goods have more travel time as compared to local products, which can contribute in carbon emission while transporting with trucks, trains, and by air. Due to this, people prefer local products to skip transportation needs, which is act as more eco-friendly. Moreover, people think it is a good idea to support local market to buy native products for instance, buys things from local farmer to help their business, ultimately it will assist to create more native jobs and infrastructure development.

Another factor behind this trend, local products such as fruits and vegetables, they have less transportation and storage time as compared to imported goods, which makes these products more fresh and healthy.

In my opinion, this trend have more positive development on global level. Environmentally, less traffic on routes can eradicates the noise and air pollution on international level. Economically, sales of local products not only boast the financial condition of local area but also it can minimize the unemployment rate. Furthermore, fresh products can be helpful to maintain the health people and local shop owner are more accountable for their goods.

To sum up, the main reasons behind this trend are economically, eco-friendly, and health benefits, which allure people to buy local products to contribute in several ways. I think this trend will assist people to maintain good health and development at local level. Eventually, overall benefits of this will display on global level.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, covering environmental, economic, and health-related aspects. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'infrastructure development' is mentioned but not explained in detail. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements of the task well enough to be considered a solid effort, though it lacks the depth of analysis required for a band 7 or higher.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for the trend to the evaluation of its impact. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In my opinion', although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation. While the flow is generally clear, some sentences are slightly disjointed, and the referencing could be more precise to improve the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'carbon emission', 'infrastructure development', and 'unemployment rate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'more awareness towards environment' (should be 'awareness of the environment') and 'boast the financial condition' (should be 'boost'). The range is sufficient to communicate, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'this trend have more positive development' (subject-verb agreement), 'can eradicates' (modal verb usage), and 'maintain the health people' (missing preposition/article). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
