Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an increasing demand for buying local produce rather than imported ones. More shoppers are now preferring to buy locally produced goods, as it not only supports the local community around you, but it is also cheaper and the supply is consistent. It is largely a positive development.
Firstly, with the current uncertainties in the world, the current supply chain has been disrupted to a great extent. It has now become difficult to transport goods around the globe, especially with the ongoing wars in West Asia. Consumers sometimes have no choice but to buy local produce. Latest data suggests that there is a 10% drop in exports internationally. And to meet the consumer demands the local producers are working hard to capture the market. Secondly, the shooting has prices have added additional costs to the final price which the end-consumers have to pay. People soon realized that they can save significantly if they avoid imported goods.
To a greater extent, this trend has proved to make people's lives better. As buying goods which are produced locally, not only the consumers are saving, but they are also helping the people around them. Many developing countries reported a sharp rise in their GDP because of this trend. Moreover, there are many traditionally made products which are gaining popularity again which would not have been the case if people were still dependent on imported goods.
In conclusion, though the practice of buying local goods became popular because of supply chain issues and added transportation costs, it proved to be a win-win situation for both the producers and the end consumers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend (supply chain issues, costs) and expressing a clear position that it is a positive development. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported. However, some points could be developed further; for instance, the mention of 'traditionally made products' is a good point but lacks specific elaboration or examples. The argument is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more depth rather than moving quickly to the next idea.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of supply chain issues and the impact on prices could be more fluid. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'supply chain,' 'consumer demands,' and 'win-win situation.' However, there are some inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'the shooting has prices,' which appears to be a typo for 'soaring prices.' The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Incorporating more precise academic vocabulary would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'As buying goods which are produced locally, not only the consumers are saving...' which is syntactically awkward. There are also minor punctuation and phrasing issues throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence variety and ensuring subject-verb agreement in more complex structures will help improve your accuracy.
