Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that some customers have started giving preference to locally produced products instead of buying it from other countries. Easy availability and awareness among people are primary reasons behind it and it is positive development for a nation.

One of the important reason is that these products are easily available in market. This is because, these are made in the nation so buying becomes easily. They do not have to wait for the products for so long. Not only this, there is no import or custom duty added. Thus, buyers can easily buy those at affordable price. For example, in India, many people make hand crafted goods and those who want to decorate their home can buy while sitting at a comfort zone of their home without wasting their time.

Moreover, another important reason is the government efforts to increase the awareness regarding benefits of local goods. In other words, these days, the authorities are giving knowledge to people that if they buy local products then they get discounts and other benefits from the goverment. As a result, people start purchasing these products.

This trend has positive effect on a nation's economy because new factories are being established to meet the increasing demand of citizens. Thus, employment increases and people earn money. It helps to boost economy of a nation.

In conclusion, due to less price and government the trend of buy local is increasing which is not only helping the buyers and sellers but also the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local goods and the opinion on whether this is a positive or negative trend. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of import duties and the economic benefits for the nation. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding government awareness is vague and lacks depth. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements but remains at a basic level of development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In other words', and 'As a result' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. The overall progression of ideas is logical, but the flow could be improved with more varied and sophisticated linking phrases to better connect the arguments within and between paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. The student uses basic terms like 'easy availability', 'good', and 'make'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'buying becomes easily' (should be 'buying becomes easy') and 'comfort zone of their home' (which is an awkward collocation). While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficiently wide to demonstrate flexibility or the use of less common lexical items. More precise terminology related to economics or consumer behavior would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'One of the important reason' (should be 'reasons'), 'at affordable price' (should be 'at an affordable price'), and 'government efforts to increase the awareness' (missing 'the' or 'government's'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage is needed.
