Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, the demand for locally produced goods has significantly increased in many countries. This development has led to a decline in the imports of international goods. I believe this is a positive trend and will result in the economic growth of the country.

One major reason for the rapid increase in the purchase of local goods is that the with this trend the country will flourish economically. This is because the import of goods will reduce and the value of currency will rise. For instance, in many countries, the government has imposed heavy taxes on the import of international goods, resulting in an increased demand for locally produced goods.

Another significant reason why people prefer local products is that they are low cost and high quality. No heavy duty and shipments charges are required to be paid for the purchase of such goods so local public can easily afford them. The drawbacks with international goods is that a lot of times, large quantities of products end up getting damaged or lost at customs. Moreover, buyers have to pay heavy duties, which is unlike in local products. For example, if manufacturers produce their own products they will make higher profit as international custom and shipping cost is reduced.

In conclusion, the use of local products can be extremely beneficial for the economic growth of a country. Local products are low in cost and high in quality and they must be preferred over international goods. This will be beneficial to both the country and its people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding economic growth is mentioned in the introduction and then repeated as the primary reason in the first body paragraph. The second body paragraph focuses on cost and quality, which is relevant, but the explanation could be more nuanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported idea rather than restating the same economic point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Another significant reason', and 'Moreover' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the phrase 'local products' is used frequently at the start of sentences. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and using more sophisticated referencing would enhance the flow and help the essay move beyond a standard structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'customs', 'duties', and 'shipment charges'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simple phrasing. Some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'local public' instead of 'local consumers' or 'domestic buyers'. To improve, the student should aim to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repeating basic terms like 'goods' and 'products'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'the with this trend' is a redundant construction, and 'The drawbacks with international goods is' contains a subject-verb agreement error. Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'this is unlike in local products'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a greater focus on sentence variety and structural precision to reach a higher band.
