Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some customers prefer to purchase regional products over foreign products. I strongly believe that it is good aspect because it promotes local market as well as employment opportunities of regional craftsman and skilled workers.

Buying local products boosts sales of national market and job opportunities for skilled workers and professionals. For example, relying on local brands will increase the demand among customers for various products such as clothing, shoes, perfumes, bags and soft drinks. People will realize the importance of the national products, trust more, and will become more familiar towards its utility. The increased purchasing of local products also promotes value of products across various regions resulting in a more strong economy. Likewise, purchasing more local products will increase the requirements of hiring skilled and professionals to produce and manage the products at national level. Majority of people can earn more and it will reduce the rate of unemployment in the long run.

On the other hand, buying imported goods has some positive aspects too because it enhances the foreign trades opportunities and introduces international economy and culture. For example, with the changing trends of global technology and modernization , people also prefer to experience new products and keep themselves up with changing fashion trends. Majority of young individuals buy latest tech- products such as, mobile phones, smart watches, the designer bags to present themselves more fashionable and trendy. Buying imported goods is also a source of cultural integration and bridges communication and cultural gaps.

In conclusion, buying local products rather than imported goods is positive trends as it boosts national economy and local job opportunities but buying imported good can also increases foreign trade opportunities to some extent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'job opportunities' is mentioned in both the first and second paragraphs without significant expansion. While the response covers the requirements, the analysis of why it is a positive trend could be more nuanced. The conclusion acknowledges the counter-argument, which is good, but the overall development remains at a fairly basic level of explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example', 'Likewise', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing local products to imported goods is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'its utility' in the second paragraph, where the antecedent is not immediately obvious. Overall, the structure is coherent but lacks sophisticated linking.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'cultural integration' and 'modernization'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'more strong economy' (should be 'stronger economy') and 'familiar towards its utility'. The range is sufficient to communicate, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent a higher score. Expanding the range of synonyms and collocations would improve the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'it is good aspect' (missing article), 'promotes value of products' (missing article), and 'buying imported good can also increases' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage around lists and clauses. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest that the writer has not yet achieved consistent control over complex structures.
