Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is an undeniable fact that consumerism plays a paramount role in this contemporary epoch and technology driven world. Considering this, some individuals prefer to purchase the items which are grown locally, while others choose goods which are imported from other countries. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this tendency and even though there may be a few negative sides of this essay, the positive ones are quite more.

The belief that I hold can be justified by a considerable rationale. Firstly, the most prominent one is, it will increase the economy of the country. To untangle this, due to local produced goods it will benefit the local people in terms of financial which results in the encouragement of the farmers to produced more and more goods. Another intriguing justification is, people prefer to have fresh and organic goods. To explicate this, people use preservatives to import products from other nations meanwhile my reaching the destination it will loose the important nutrients which are essential for the body. For instance, according to many surveys conducted imported goods are not considered as healthy as local produced food.

Exploring further, the worth noticing inducement is imported goods are more expensive then locally produced products. To postulate this, it includes tax and duty to be exported to different countries with more precautions ultimately leads to more money. To exemplify, cherries which are not produced in India, so people pay more for such exotic fruit. Last but not least, no one can deny that if the good is not up to the mark then people can changed it immediately if it is local. Therefore, these are the reason behind this trend.

To recapitulate, even though local produced goods are imported makes more money, I still believe that locally produced has far more benefits than imported ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive or negative trend. The ideas are relevant, such as economic benefits and freshness of produce. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation of why local goods are cheaper is slightly confusing, and the conclusion is quite brief, failing to fully synthesise the arguments presented. While the position is clear, the supporting points could be extended with more specific, nuanced detail to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is relevant and covers all requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Another intriguing justification', and 'To recapitulate'. However, some of the linking phrases are used in a mechanical or slightly unnatural way, such as 'To untangle this' or 'To postulate this', which do not always fit the context perfectly. Additionally, the transition between the reasons and the opinion could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow of ideas is occasionally hindered by slightly awkward phrasing, which keeps it at a mid-range level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'contemporary epoch', 'paramount role', and 'exotic fruit'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'local produced goods' (should be 'locally produced'), 'financial' used as a noun, and 'my reaching the destination' (should be 'upon reaching'). These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a lack of precision. To improve, focus on using collocations correctly and ensuring that words are used in their appropriate grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the positive ones are quite more' (should be 'much more'), 'farmers to produced' (should be 'farmers to produce'), 'imported goods are more expensive then' (should be 'than'), and 'people can changed it' (should be 'change'). These errors are noticeable and occur in both simple and complex structures. While they do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they indicate a need for more consistent control over basic verb forms and sentence construction.
