Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods. I believe people have started buying goods from their local places because they are affordable and convenient.

There are many reasons why people choose to get things or goods from within the city. one of the measure reason is they are worth the value whereas if they get it from different city or country it would be expensive for instance, Makeups or skin care. people have less faith in other country and high chance of being fraud victim. Consumers have trust on the local people moreover they also want to support their business. There are two more aspects that is Convenience and Comfort. It is very easy to grab something from nearby store. If we order things online from different city it might take days to arrive.

In my opinion, it is an positive trend due to this it helps the locals to increase their business, it also support employment. It is very affordable and local gets encouragement because of the buyers trust. consumers can buy things and see the quality before purchasing For example, many people like me who want to check the product before getting it.

I would like to share my personal experience, i wanted to buy the home decor for my kitchen, therefore i saw lot of items online which was from the different city and they were really eye catching. I really wanted to buy them however the prices were so high. I try to look for the similar things in the local market and luckily i found them. I purchased them in half price and later realised that things getting from our local area is more beneficial and affordable.

In conclusion, increase in choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, are profitable to both consumers as well as local businessman.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as affordability, convenience, and supporting local businesses. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the claim that imported goods are often 'fraud' is a significant generalization that lacks nuance. While the personal example regarding kitchen decor adds a personal touch, the overall argument could be strengthened by exploring broader economic or environmental implications to reach a higher band. The position is clear throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'There are many reasons' and 'In my opinion' are used to structure the text, but the transition between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt. For instance, the jump from discussing makeup to trust in local businesses lacks a smooth logical connector. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from a more sophisticated range of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. The student relies on basic terms like 'things', 'goods', and 'get'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'measure reason' (instead of 'main reason') and 'things getting from our local area' (which is grammatically awkward). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'affordable' and 'employment', the overall lexical range is limited, and the phrasing often feels informal or repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'local gets encouragement'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., 'i' is frequently lowercase). The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying heavily on simple clauses. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence variety and proofreading for basic errors is needed.
