IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods.

What are the reasons for this?

Is this a positive or a negative trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern and busy life everyone wants a quick things because they do not have time to wait. Most of the buyer support the local market, one of the reason is the item is much cheaper than the import good because they do not have any hidden charge like road tax, federal tax. Secondly, inventory is available all the time, consumer do not need to wait for the item. Even that it has a positive effect, the growth of local market as well producer increase with a time and people can save a time. For example, I live in a winery town, in the summer time the town is too busy the population is almost more than a twice during vacation time. The visitors support the local growers they can visit the winery and check how the wine is making and also check the quality of the product. On the other side, it has also negative effect, the import and export is a key for business as well it also help make a better relation between one country to another. The import good has a different taste, different material and might be it has better quality than the local grower.

In conclusion, people have to support a local producers because of low price and easily available but with import product consumer experience differently to support the different producer.
