Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether this is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'culture and history' is mentioned but not explained in detail, and the point about 'bread and butter' for shopkeepers is a bit informal and repetitive. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on the implications of these trends. The position is clear throughout, but the overall depth of the argument is limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the structure is quite basic. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'First and foremost', 'furthermore', and 'In addition', they are sometimes used mechanically or with grammatical errors. The flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by repetitive phrasing (e.g., 'because of this' is used multiple times in the same paragraph). The logical progression of ideas is present, but the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of the transitions limit the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'things', 'products', and 'goods' without much variation. There are also several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'local produced things' instead of 'locally produced goods' and 'survivng in there days' instead of 'surviving in these days'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should aim to use more precise terminology and avoid repeating the same words in close proximity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'shopping become', 'people choosing'), article usage (e.g., 'a local product product', 'a imported things'), and sentence structure. There is a heavy reliance on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors, such as run-on sentences and punctuation mistakes. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and the appropriate use of articles before nouns.
