Student answer (Band 7.0)
In today's globalized world, consumers increasingly prefer locally produced goods rather than imported products. The prominent reasons behind this trend are superior quality and economic factors. This essay will outline the reasons behind this trend and explain why it is a positive development, as it creates employment opportunities and promotes environmentally sustainable practices.
One of the primary reasons consumers prefer locally produced goods is that they provide superior quality. This is largely because locally produced food is free from extensive chemical fertilizer use. As a result, consumers believe that locally grown foods tend to be more nutritious than industrially produced foods. In simple terms, it means consumers are more conscious about making informed decisions about healthy meals. Moreover, many individuals assert that investing in local products promotes economic balance by encouraging local agricultural practices and motivating farmers. For instance, in Delhi, many residents are strongly encouraged to invest in local products, which not only improves their standard of living by opting for healthier, locally produced options but also balances their economic circumstances. Therefore, this example clearly demonstrates that it benefits both consumers and organizations actively involved in local businesses.
This is a positive trend because it generates job opportunities and reduces carbon footprints. When consumers invest in locally produced goods, they contribute to economic growth by creating employment opportunities in related sectors such as marketing, agriculture, and trading. Consequently, this growth discourages youngsters from migrating to other countries for career prospects and encourages them to start working in their own communities. Another positive impact of this shift is on environmentally sustainable practices. This is mainly because producing food locally limits import and export trade, which is associated with carbon emissions from transportation. For example, in Mumbai, it has been reported that carbon footprints have been reduced to a greater extent. This is because the government has invested in local businesses, resulting in reduced transportation for imports and exports. Hence, this is a positive development for both the nation and individuals' well-being.
To reiterate, consumers are increasingly inclined toward locally produced goods; this is a positive trend because it generates career opportunities, reduces carbon emissions, and provides healthier meal options—this shift toward locally produced products benefits both the nation and individuals in the long term.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt, providing clear reasons for the trend and a well-supported argument for why it is positive. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as the mention of local agricultural practices in Delhi and the reduction of carbon footprints in Mumbai. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully developed; for instance, while you mention 'economic balance,' explaining the mechanism of how local spending circulates within a community would add more depth to your analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'consequently,' 'moreover,' and 'to reiterate,' which help guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is smooth, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. To improve further, ensure that the transition between sentences within a paragraph is always seamless, as some connections feel slightly mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas with precision. Phrases like 'environmentally sustainable practices,' 'career prospects,' and 'carbon footprints' are used accurately and appropriately in context. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'locally produced goods,' which could be varied with synonyms such as 'domestically sourced items' or 'regional produce.' While you attempt some less common vocabulary, there is room to incorporate more sophisticated collocations to elevate the tone of the essay further.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures with good control. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your punctuation is generally accurate. You successfully employ complex structures, such as conditional and causal clauses (e.g., 'When consumers invest in locally produced goods, they contribute to...'). There are very few grammatical slips, and those that do occur do not impede communication. To aim for a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical forms, such as passive voice constructions or inversion, to demonstrate greater flexibility.
