Student answer (Band 5.5)

People have different opinions on buying the goods that are produced in their neighbourhood, rather than imported goods. This essay will discuss reasons and explain them.In my opinion it is a positive trend as it supports the local farmers and also help them to get freshly grown vegetables instead of frozen.

In recent times, there is a growing trend towards the organic food, that is to eat healthy and chemical free grown vegetables.Because of that a lot of people started buying locally grown vegetables directly from the farmers which not only supports the farmers but also help them to eat seasonal vegetables which they can get it to lower cost than some imported vegetables. As a result, it helps to build a stronger community by helping each other.

In my opinion, it is a positive trend as it helps farmers to sell there food directly to the end user without help of any third party vendors and also helps them to grow there business locally .Moreover, the end user can enjoy the fresh vegetables which are grown in their neighbourhood and can reduce there spending on imported vegetables. As people are more concentrating to lead a healthy life, consuming seasonally grown healthy foods have more nutritious value than imported vegetables.

In conclusion, I believe purchasing the goods locally is a positive trend helps the small business to grow which results in building a stronger society.Furthermore, we can enjoy the fresh vegetables and fruits and which helps us to lead a healthy life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for buying local and expressing a clear position that it is a positive trend. However, the response is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the benefits of fresh vegetables and supporting farmers. To improve, you should expand on the economic or environmental implications of local versus imported goods to provide a more comprehensive analysis. The position is consistent, but the development of ideas lacks the necessary breadth to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the phrase 'it is a positive trend' is used in both the introduction and the conclusion, and the transition between sentences often relies on simple connectors like 'moreover' or 'as a result'. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'them', 'which') clearly points back to the intended nouns to avoid ambiguity.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You frequently repeat basic terms like 'vegetables', 'farmers', and 'imported'. There are also some noticeable word-choice errors, such as 'there food' instead of 'their food' and 'concentrating to lead' instead of 'concentrating on leading'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement, incorrect preposition usage, and confusion between 'there' and 'their'. For instance, 'help them to get' should be 'helps them get', and 'without help of any' requires an article ('the help'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and practice using more complex sentence structures with greater precision.
