Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, many people encourage local traders by purchasing local goods items, instead of spending lot of money on the international products and services . In my opinion, this is a positive trend as it will boost the country's economy and motivate the local business to expand.

I strongly believe that, most of the country's funds are used in importing the products from various countries. However, we have to agree the terms by paying high tariffs to opposite party. For instance, as per current scenario due the political issue the prices of the product have reached the sky rocket. Furthermore, purchasing local goods will have greater impact on society as well as it will give rise to local markets.

Another most important fact is that, using local product is our daily lives will encourage our local manufactures and retailer to expand their business by producing more goods , investing funds on high scale and generating job opportunities for local people. This can give rise to promote goods and services on global level, hence it will bring more capital in the home country. For example, In the recent article Canada is promoting local products to encourage people and stop using imported products as the prices of the products will be much higher due to various import duties.

In my conclusion, Promoting local business has always been a good option in terms of saving the money and also promoting our own culture and tradition. This gives us various opportunities globally to showcase our products.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for choosing local goods and the opinion on whether this is a positive trend. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding 'political issues' and 'sky rocket' prices is vague and lacks a clear logical link to the broader economic argument. While the essay covers the requirements, the supporting examples, such as the mention of Canada, are not fully integrated or explained in a way that deepens the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed analysis and specific, well-explained examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'Another most important fact', and 'In my conclusion'. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Another most important fact is that, using local product is our daily lives'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the progression of ideas within paragraphs sometimes lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'goods items', 'opposite party', and 'sky rocket' (used as an adjective). The phrase 'high scale' is also imprecise. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic control. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to express economic concepts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'most of the country's funds are used in importing' (should be 'on importing'), 'agree the terms' (missing 'to'), and 'due the political issue' (missing 'to'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they indicate a lack of control over complex structures, which limits the score in this criterion.
