Student answer (Band 6.0)

In contemporary society, increasing number of people are buying local goods rather than the imported ones, as they believe local good have better quality and by buying them they contribute towards their local economy. I believe it is a negative trend as globalization plays a pivot role in expanding the nation's economy. Let us discuss the given statement in the subsequent paragraphs.

To begin with, let us shed some light on why individuals contend to buy local goods over imported ones. To elaborate, people tends to buy local produce, as they believe it is more fresh, and they can help local producers to dominate in the foreign markets. By purchasing local goods people just pay less service tax, as compared to the imported ones. To cite an example, USA have increased the intrest rates for goods and services by introducing 50 percent of tarrifs on goods. People in canada preffers to take local products to save money and to increase the economy for their own country. Hence, people saves money when they purchase local goods.

On the contrary, buying local goods is a negative trend, as people cannot expand their business globally, and would decrease the employement oppurtunities. Moreover, it would create huge tensions among the nations, as their would not be any friendly relations, which could lead them towards wars. For example, nations like China, USA and Russia does not prefer international goods, as they promote their own local goods have really bad relations with eachother. Consequently, this arrangement leads them towards an economic war in order to make their currency strong. As a result, globalization not only increases the economy, but also helps to maintain friendly relations among nations.

To encapsulate, it can be concluded that people buy local goods for better quality in less price. I believe, it is a negative trend as it increases tension among nations and doesnot helps to build the economy,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument that buying local leads to 'wars' is an extreme over-generalization that lacks logical support. While the position is clear, the supporting examples, such as the claim about the USA and Russia, are factually questionable and not well-integrated into the argument. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced and realistic explanations for your claims, ensuring that your examples directly support your main points rather than relying on hyperbolic statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with,' 'On the contrary,' and 'To encapsulate,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the sentence structure becomes fragmented. The use of cohesive devices is sufficient, but more variety and smoother integration between sentences would improve the flow and help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary society,' 'globalization,' and 'economic war.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'pivot role' (should be 'pivotal role') and 'doesnot helps' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). Spelling errors like 'intrest,' 'tarrifs,' 'preffers,' and 'oppurtunities' are frequent and detract from the overall quality. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and ensuring that your word choices are precise and contextually appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people tends,' 'USA have,' 'nations... does not prefer') and punctuation errors. These errors are noticeable and occur consistently, though they do not generally impede communication. To move to a higher band, you need to focus on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for basic grammatical slips. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures will also be essential for a higher score.
