Student answer (Band 6.5)

There are several reasons why people choose locally produced goods.First, consumers often believe that local products are fresher and good quality, particularly when it comes to food. Locally grown fruits, vegetables and dairy products usually travel shorter distance before reaching shops, which means they can be sold more quickly. Second, buying local products helps supports small businesses and local workers. When people spend money on goods made in their own communities, more income remains within the local economy. For example, purchasing vegetables from local farmers provie them with a stable source of income and help their usinesses grow.

I believe this is a positive trend for both economic and environmental reasons. From an environmental persective, locally produced goods generally require less transportation than imported products. As a result, fewer fossil fuels may be used and green house-gas emissions can be reduced.Economically, greater demand for local products can crate employment opportunities and encourage people to start small businesses. In addition, consumers can sometimes communicate directly with local producers, making it easier to learn about how products are made and where they come from.

However, imported goods caan offer consumers a wide range of choices and in some cases, lower prices. Nevertheless, I elieve that the advantages of supporting local production are more significant, especially when products are resonable priced and meet consumers needs.

In conclusion, people are increasingly buying local goods because they value their quality and freshness and want to support their local economy. In my view, this is a positive trend because it can strenthen communities, create jobs and reduce the environmental impact of transportation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing clear reasons for the trend and a distinct opinion on whether it is positive. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the discussion on environmental benefits and economic support for local businesses. However, the development is somewhat brief in places. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the counter-argument regarding imported goods by providing a more concrete example of how global trade benefits consumers beyond just price, which would demonstrate a more nuanced understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Second', 'In addition', and 'However' to link your points. While the structure is effective, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall arrangement of the argument is coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'fossil fuels', 'greenhouse-gas emissions', and 'employment opportunities'. There are a few spelling errors, such as 'persective', 'crate', 'caan', 'elieve', 'resonable', and 'strenthen', which suggest a need for more careful proofreading. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Incorporating more sophisticated collocations would further enhance your lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear, and the meaning is rarely obscured by grammatical errors. However, there are several punctuation and minor grammatical slips, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'goods.First'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'provie them', 'help their usinesses'). While you show control over complex structures, the frequency of these minor errors indicates that you have not yet achieved the level of accuracy required for a higher band.
