Student answer (Band 6.0)

The majority of customers are purchasing goods such as local food, clothes, and household items from their native place rather than importing them. I think this is a positive trend because buying goods from a local area increases the productivity of local shopkeepers significantly, makes them financial stable and most importantly government doesn't have to spend both money and resources in importing.

One of the principal reasons of significant increase in purchasing rate of items from a local area is reliability. In case of any emergencies, people can run to their local marketers rather than importing it. Additionally, reliability increases trust, relationships and development opportunities.

For example, people who are dependent on a crude oil, imported from other countries could get affected by the war, shortage of any resources or any unfortunate circumstances, but on the other hand, where people are relying on their local sellers, will know there will never be a deficiency.

Another primary reason is creating a stable employment opportunities and a equality balance among people living in a society by supporting one another. People purchasing goods from local areas not just benefit the local sellers but also themselves.

Moreover, local people also get an opportunity to grow in a modern world markets and stay competitive, making them financial strong. For instance, an individual coming from low-income family would get the same type of opportunities as a child coming from wealthy family irrespective of their parent's occupation.

In conclusion, I strongly agree to a large extent that this trend is a positive trend. Although importing goods could be beneficial, relying on own local salesperson would put a society and a government on a significant advantage by maintaining a financial and a equality balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding crude oil is not entirely relevant to the context of local consumer goods, and the argument about 'equality balance' is a bit vague and lacks concrete explanation. To reach a higher band, the ideas need to be more fully extended with more logical, real-world examples that directly relate to the shift in consumer behavior.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Additionally,' 'For example,' and 'Moreover,' which help guide the reader. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'where people are relying on their local sellers, will know there will never be a deficiency,' which lacks a clear subject. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the structure supports the central argument effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'deficiency' and 'competitive.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor collocation errors, such as 'financial stable' (should be 'financially stable'), 'local marketers' (when referring to shopkeepers), and 'a equality balance.' These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a equality balance,' 'a significant advantage') and word forms ('making them financial strong'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'government doesn't have to spend both money and resources in importing.' While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy.
