Student answer (Band 6.0)

We are living in a global village, where all of us have access to get things from different parts of the world. But some buyers prefer to buy local goods, rather than items from other areas. I believe it is a positive trend since it is good for country's economic growth and also consumer can get fresh products from the local area. In the following paragraphs I will discuss the main reasons for this trend and why this is a positive approach.

To begin with, the main reason to buy the local items is these goods are way cheaper than the imported products. Because the transportation charges also includes in the price of the product. For example, there is huge difference in the price if the person is buying the shoes from the local market than they purchase it from international brand store. In addition, due to inflation, everyone keeps their expenses low so that they can afford their the other important things like the education of their children and medical charges etc.

Moving forward, it is a good way to help with the country's economic growth. For instance, if there are no consumers of international goods in the country than there is no need to import those things, and it is really helpful, especially for developing countries. Another important point to consider is that the local goods are fresher. For example, imported fruits and vegetables might be in the boxes or containers for many days because of the transportation from one place to another. Therefore, there could be no freshness in those products.

As a result, it is evident that modern consumers use their money wisely to buy products and that is why choosing local goods is a positive trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the evaluation of the trend. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding economic growth is a bit simplistic; it could be strengthened by discussing job creation or the multiplier effect of local spending. While the points are relevant, they lack depth and specific, nuanced examples. The essay covers the requirements, but the supporting arguments remain at a surface level, which prevents it from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moving forward', and 'As a result' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the other important things', which is slightly vague. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure is coherent, meeting the requirements for a solid band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. The student uses basic terms like 'way cheaper', 'good way', and 'really helpful'. While these do not impede communication, they do not demonstrate the range required for a higher band. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'access to get things'. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary (e.g., 'economic stimulus' instead of 'help with economic growth'). The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it is not flexible or precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'transportation charges also includes' (subject-verb agreement), 'if the person is buying... than they purchase' (incorrect comparative structure), and 'afford their the other' (repetition/article error). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. A wider range of error-free complex structures would be necessary to achieve a higher score.
