Student answer (Band 6.0)

Due to advancement in technology and globalization world, it is easy to get any product from anywhere in the world. While some consumers buy imported goods, others are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area. I will discuss merits and demerits of this in the following paragraphs before giving my opinion.

On the one hand, purchasing products from the local market can increase the economy of the country as the more local product sells more profit can gain. Moreover, consumers can help small businesses by purchasing local items. Furthermore, local products are cheap in price because customer are not obligated to pay duties and customs on the local product. Additionally, local products are very good in quality because it made from the local ingredients. For instance, In India clothes are made from the material such as cotton and silk and this are the local material therefore people should prefer to buy local clothes rather than buying a polyester and plastic materials from the another country. These plastic and Polyester materials are harmful to human.

On the other hand, Imported goods can be expensive because we need to pay duties and other shipping and customs charges. Moreover, people love to follow the trend and recently there is a trend going on to buy global product. People like to show of their luxuries lifestyle, therefore they choose imported products rather than local one so they can show the foreign items to their friends and relatives. In addition, if country imports a lot then it can decrease the economy of country which is a negative impact.

Furthermore, If people buys foreign items a lot then the local items will be vanished and due to this future generation will not learn and experience about the local product.

In my opinion, although it's good to have a knowledge about the global products, people should not forget about the local items. Therefore, I believe that choosing to buy goods that are produced in the local area is the positive impact.

In conclusion, people should be aware of the global product, however choosing a local product is beneficial financially for them and country as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and expressing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of local products are discussed, the reasons for the trend itself (e.g., environmental concerns or supply chain awareness) are only touched upon superficially. The argument regarding the 'negative impact' of importing is a bit repetitive, and the explanation of why local products might 'vanish' is under-developed. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations for why consumers are shifting their preferences, rather than just listing the advantages of local goods.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition' to link sentences. However, some of these transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'this are the local material', where the pronoun reference is imprecise. Additionally, the paragraphing is functional but could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed theme. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'cheap', and 'harmful'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'increase the economy' (should be 'boost the economy') and 'vanished' (should be 'disappear' or 'become obsolete'). While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'duties' and 'customs', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to economics and consumer behavior.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('customer are', 'this are the local material', 'people buys'), article misuse ('the economy of country'), and awkward phrasing ('globalization world'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure often feels repetitive. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over complex structures and ensure that basic grammatical rules, such as pluralization and verb agreement, are applied consistently.
