Student answer (Band 6.5)
Instead of buying imported products, many customers are choosing locally produced products. The main reasons behind this are affordable prices and good quality. In my opinion, this is a positive change as it helps to grow local economy and provides employment to local people.
Since there is no requirement of a big supply chain, local goods are more cost effective. Whereas local businesses run on word of mouth, big companies spend a lot of money in marketing and middle men. This increases their prices significantly. Moreover, locally produced products such as fruits and vegetables are more fresh and nutrition rich than the produce coming from another part of the country. For imported vegetables, it might take more than a day to reach the market. On the other hand, local farmers deliver their produced within hours.
Supporting locals not only helps build stronger community but also helps in the case of any emergency or supply chain shortage. Recently, as majority of imported products go through the straight of hormuz, a lot of countries faced disturbance in supply during its closure. In addition to this, local companies employ local people. A lot of people leave their hometown in the search of jobs. If people are supporting local businesses, they will hire local people and eventually they will spend their earned money buying more local products. This cycle creates strong and sustainable economy.
In conclusion, I believe that people buying products from local brands has more benefits than negatives. This will help to build self dependent economy. Lower prices and quality are main reasons behind this trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and clearly stating a position that it is a positive development. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the discussion on supply chain efficiency and economic sustainability. However, the development could be further enhanced by providing more specific, real-world examples rather than general statements. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though it is slightly repetitive. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between paragraphs is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In addition to this' are used effectively to link ideas. While the paragraphing is appropriate, some of the linking phrases are slightly formulaic. The referencing is generally clear, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument throughout the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is some use of topic-specific vocabulary such as 'supply chain,' 'sustainable economy,' and 'self-dependent.' However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'deliver their produced' (should be 'produce') and 'straight of hormuz' (should be 'Strait of Hormuz'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions would be needed to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'nutrition rich' (should be 'nutrient-rich'), 'the straight of hormuz' (capitalization and spelling), and 'more fresh' (should be 'fresher'). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and pluralization. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and the student demonstrates a reasonable level of control over sentence construction.
