Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years, some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area rather than those that are imported. I believe that this positive trend will outweigh the negative trend.
Early people used to buy products such as fruits, vegetables and other essential daily products without noticing from where the product was produced. But as people are getting more conscious about their health and physical fitness. They are getting involved in knowing about the nutrients it contains and researching about the ingredients that they consuming. Therefore, one reason is this that people wants to visit local factories or farms where they can see the manufacturing process of the products and how it is being produced, and if there is any chemicals being used or not.
Moreover, the tariffs imposed by other countries on the imported goods have been increased rapidly which has led the prices of the imported goods to go up, so the consumers are aware of buying the locally produced products in order to support their local economy and government, rather than paying to the other countries for the goods. This will also help people to prompt their locally produced products, which will also lead to more employment opportunities.
Although not all the products can be produced in one local area, as it will depend on a lot of factors such as weather, temperature etc. For example strawberries are not produced in all the countries as it need cold weather to be grown. But the local people can still promote their made in home products.
In conclusion, I believe the increase in buying the local produced goods by the consumer is a good trend and should increase more in the following years, as this will help the government to control the rising price of the goods and will also create job opportunities. But it will not completely shut the doors for all the imported goods, as people will still buy products that are not produced in the local areas but are essentially consumed in their day to day life for survival.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding health consciousness is a bit repetitive, and the point about tariffs is slightly underdeveloped. While the response covers the requirements, the arguments could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the stance, though the final sentence is a bit wordy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Therefore', and 'Although' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation of the trend. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'manufacturing process' and 'employment opportunities'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'prompt their locally produced products' (likely meaning 'promote') and 'made in home products'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise collocation and a wider range of vocabulary to express ideas with greater nuance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people wants', 'it need cold weather') and awkward sentence construction ('one reason is this that people wants'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in article usage. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, which limits the score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
