Student answer (Band 6.0)

Increasing number of people are choosing to purchase local items instead of importing them from other state or country. There are several reasons for this that i am going to mention below. And also I think its a positive trend.

Initially, I think this is happening because of internet. Now there are many kind of videos are available on internet that shows how people are using chemical and fertilizers to increase their crop growth. This is one of the reason why people prefer to buy item that produce locally. Because they can go in there local market to see how farmers are growing their crops. Which built their trust to buy local item and also importing them from other state or country takes a lot of time and money. Secondly, In this busy scenario humans want to save their time as much as they can so they can utilize it in a productive way.

On the other hand, this is a positive trend. It will help them to save their money as buying goods from local market is cheaper then importing them form outside. There is not a big difference between local items or imported items. Even sometimes some of the shopkeepers just label their item with a high brand name which is not really branded and they sell it on high cost, which is sometimes unaffordable by many people.

In conclusion, people should buy things which are affordable for them as well as healthy for their body. They should also motivate other people to follow this positive trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about the internet and chemical usage is a good start but lacks specific detail or a clear link to the broader economic or environmental implications. The argument regarding cost is also a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more depth and perhaps provide a concrete example, such as the environmental impact of food miles or the support for local economies.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Initially', 'Secondly', 'On the other hand'). There are also issues with referencing; for example, the phrase 'In this busy scenario' is unclear in its context. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'big', and 'things'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'importing them from other state' (should be 'another state') and 'sell it on high cost' (should be 'at a high cost'). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to economics, sustainability, and consumer behaviour.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'There are many kind of videos'), article usage (e.g., 'in there local market'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors like pluralisation and verb forms would be highly beneficial.
