Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, many consumers are significantly increasingly prefering to purchase goods that are manufactured in their native place, although others choosing imported materials. This trend has both postive and negative development. In this essay i will discuss reasons for both.
On the one hand, there are a plethora of reasons to buy in the local area. Firstly, some consumers buy things in the local area, not only enhances the local sales, but it also increases the economy of the local enterpreneurs. Moreover, these benefits enables to encourage many people establish manufacturing companies. For example, in India, the government legislated the law about the goods in 2024; making India and made in india. Which governement raises the loans for local community people to establish new manufacturing companies.
In the last year, it represented significant positive development in this country.
On the other hand, some consumers are choosing to buy imported items, this is a negative impact not only on family members, but it also entire society. Because, now adays many people are buying unnecessary products to show case their status. Which is not good for the overall society. For example, in London, many people are wasting money for the imported items because they want to show case their friends in the college. Therefore, this leads to focus on the imported gadgets unnecessarily.
In conclusion, while some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods. I believe this has both postive and negative effect on this trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and offering an opinion on its nature. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation regarding the 'Make in India' initiative is a bit disjointed, and the argument about imported goods in London lacks a clear link to the broader societal impact. While the position is stated, it is not consistently maintained throughout the essay, particularly in the conclusion, which merely repeats the prompt rather than synthesising the arguments. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a clear, logical link between the reason and the overall trend.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often mechanical. The use of cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'Moreover' is present, but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that does not enhance the logical progression of ideas. For example, the transition between the discussion of local goods and the 'Make in India' example is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'Which' to start sentences, which creates fragments. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly improve the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'goods', 'local', and 'imported'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'native place' instead of 'local area' or 'domestic market'. There are also minor spelling and collocation errors, such as 'postive' and 'enterpreneurs'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary and ensure that words are used in their correct context to express more complex ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'these benefits enables'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'increasingly prefering'), and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Which governement raises...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and full stops. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency would be highly beneficial.
