Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is incontrovertible that items which are produced locally, customers are significantly selecting those products as compare to foreign products. In this discourse, I will explain factors behind this trend and how it leads to negative development.
In this contemporary world, things are getting expensive and wise choice of product is vital. One of the most prominent reasons in favor of choosing local products is affordability and convenience. In other words, most imported items are exorbitant due to custom duties and because of imposed tariffs by their nations. In addition to this, it is quite remarkably straightforward for return or exchange of locally manufactured goods as their parent companies usually reside in the city or state. Moreover, a consumer can have a wide range of choices while selecting any item, if it is produced by local residents as compared to a limited choice of imported goods.
However, this movement leads to pessimistic way as by totally relying on local items, a resident could unfamiliar with the more advanced products of other nation. For instance, in India, people are fond of local yogurt and they are not aware of Greek yogurt, which is high in protein, bought from western countries such as from Canada or United States of America. Therefore, they would eventually miss the opportunity by choosing only local products. Furthermore, quality could be compromised, if sellers know that customers are just focusing on country of manufacture, not on other factors.
To recapitulate, after taking everything into consideration, it can be said that some factors behind this trend are affordability, hassle- free deals and numerous choice, leads to negative trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The reasons provided—affordability and convenience—are relevant and clearly explained. However, the argument regarding the negative impact is somewhat underdeveloped. The example of Greek yogurt is a bit narrow and does not fully capture the broader economic or global implications of the trend. While a position is maintained throughout, the development of the 'negative' aspect could be more robust to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this,' 'Moreover,' and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence-level flow, such as the phrasing in the introduction: 'items which are produced locally, customers are significantly selecting those products.' Despite these minor lapses, the progression of ideas is generally clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'incontrovertible,' 'exorbitant,' and 'pessimistic.' However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'hassle-free deals' and 'pessimistic way,' which sound slightly unnatural in this context. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, the lack of precision in some areas prevents a higher score. The student demonstrates a good grasp of topic-specific vocabulary related to trade and consumerism, which supports the overall communication of ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'as compare to' (should be 'compared to'), 'a resident could unfamiliar' (missing verb 'be'), and 'numerous choice' (should be 'numerous choices'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as the opening sentence. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding of the main points. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles to increase the accuracy of their complex sentences.
