Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many customers are inclined towards buying the localized produced goods than imported items. The primary reason behind this can be lower cost of goods as well as desire to support local businesses and communities. I think it as an positive trend.

Intially, preferring the local product over imported can result in lower cost of goods. As, the individual can buy the same quality of prroduct at more affordable rate as the demand the certain local products are lower than for the overseas product. For example, apples produced in Canada are more cheaper than imported from India. Many people recognize that buying locally contributes to the growth of small businesses, creates employment opportunities, and strengthens the local economy. In addition, locally produced goods are often perceived as fresher and of higher quality, particularly in the case of food products.

Additionally, individuals tends to support their local businesses and communities. Spending money on locally produced goods results in increased GDP and helping businesses expand more and hire more workers. Second, reducing dependence on imported products can make local economies more resilient during global disruptions, such as economic crises or supply chain shortages. Furthermore, the environmental benefits associated with reduced transportation contribute to sustainability efforts and help combat climate change.

However, imported goods plays a crucial role in providing best quality and range of products. Therefore, a balance between supporting local industries and participating in global trade is essential.

In conclusion, supporting locally produced goods has a significant benefits, although a balance should be maintained between both for global economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and expressing a clear opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as economic growth and environmental benefits. However, the development is somewhat uneven. For instance, the argument regarding 'lower cost' is not entirely convincing, as local goods are often more expensive than mass-produced imports. The essay would benefit from more nuanced examples to support the claims. While the position is clear, the supporting points could be extended further to reach a higher band, as some arguments feel slightly repetitive between the second and third paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and there is occasional awkwardness in the flow, such as the abrupt start to the second paragraph ('Intially'). The referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a more sophisticated flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'resilient', 'global disruptions', and 'sustainability efforts'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'localized produced goods' (should be 'locally produced') and 'more cheaper' (a grammatical error affecting lexical precision). The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that detract from the quality. Examples include 'imported goods plays' (subject-verb agreement), 'the demand the certain local products' (missing preposition), and 'has a significant benefits' (article/plurality error). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and avoiding redundant comparative structures like 'more cheaper'.
