Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this advanced era, everyone has a hectic schedule due to their jobs as well as family responsibilities. Although individuals can buy imported goods easily through online websites, this is a waste of time and money. In the upcoming paragraphs, I will describe the reasons behind this fact and also mention why this is a positive trend.

To commence with, having a low budget is the most important reason. For instance, a middle-class person always has a budget for a month, and he/she cannot go beyond that. Because nowadays finding better employment is not as easy as it was in the past, people value money, and they prefer locally produced goods instead of buying imported ones, which helps them to maintain their monthly-expenses. So, choosing community-produced goods is convenient for individuals in order to achieve their monthly budget goals.

Furthermore, considering the local farmers' source of income, it also plays a crucial role in their lives to prefer local goods. To clarify, if individuals opt for imported goods, the local market will be demolished. As nobody would prefer to buy food from farmers, it will impact their income, because most of the local people earn from selling these locally produced food items. Therefore, individuals should buy things produced locally in order to help some people to earn some money not only for themselves but also for their families.

All in all, buying local goods is a positive trend that assists many people in order to achieve something in their lives, and it is also beneficial for others to buy fresh food from farmers and help them to earn.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The argument regarding 'low budget' is slightly contradictory, as imported goods are often cheaper than local artisanal products. The second point about supporting local farmers is more convincing but could be expanded with more specific examples. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of analysis remains at a basic level, which prevents it from reaching higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'All in all' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the reasons to the evaluation of the trend. The referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. Phrases like 'hectic schedule', 'waste of time and money', and 'source of income' are functional but common. There are some slightly awkward collocations, such as 'market will be demolished' (a market is usually 'destroyed' or 'collapses') and 'achieve something in their lives'. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to economics or consumer behavior rather than relying on general-purpose language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical issues, such as 'maintain their monthly-expenses' (unnecessary hyphen) and 'help some people to earn some money' (wordy and repetitive). There are also minor errors in article usage and preposition choice. The control of grammar is generally good, and errors do not impede communication, but the range of complex structures is somewhat limited, keeping the score in the 6.0 range.
