Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend (convenience and price) and evaluating it as positive. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'convenience' is repetitive, and the explanation of economic benefits could be more nuanced. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments lack depth and specific examples, relying on generalisations. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete illustrations or detailed explanations of how local businesses specifically impact the economy beyond simple statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'In addition to this' to link sentences. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition in the final paragraph ('an done of the reason'). Additionally, some referencing is unclear, and the paragraphing, while present, could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed point. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the flow between ideas could be more natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'custom duties', 'employment generation', and 'market conditions'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'way more cheaper' (a double comparative error) and 'there near by stores' (incorrect use of 'there' instead of 'their'). The range is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic phrasing to express your ideas. Expanding your range of collocations and avoiding repetitive structures would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('consumers are become'), article usage ('an international goods'), and punctuation errors (missing commas or incorrect sentence boundaries). While these errors do not typically impede communication, they are persistent and occur in both simple and complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly verb tenses and pluralisation, before attempting more complex structures.
