Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent times, there is a significant increase in the number of people who prefer purchasing goods that are produced locally rather than imported supplies. I strongly believe that this is largely a positive development.
There are a plenty of reasons supporting this argument. Firstly, due to recent awareness programs and social media influence, people now realize that buying local products help the local business and individuals around them. For example, governments around the world encourage local suppliers by providing subsidies and other benefits so that the flow of money remain within the nation. This eventually help in local infrastructure development and improves everyday life of the population. Another example can be the recent conflict between the US and Canada regarding the increased tariffs over imported goods. To support local suppliers, people started buying products made locally rather than the one's imported from US.
In my opinion it is a positive trend. Firstly, buying goods which are produced locally directly help the local market which include local craftsmen, farmers and workers. Not only it boost the local economy, but also reduce the dependency on foreign suppliers. Moreover, encouraging local businesses leads to more job opportunities within the nation. This also increases the GDP of the nation.
In conclusion, buying local products helps the nation as well as the local people including the general consumers who spend their hard earned money along with the suppliers who put the effort. This ensures that the consumer is really paying for the product rather than the import duties included.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the points about supporting local businesses and economic benefits are mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should ensure each paragraph introduces distinct, well-extended arguments rather than overlapping concepts. The examples provided, such as the US-Canada tariff conflict, are relevant and help support your position effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Another example', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'the one's imported', where the pronoun usage is slightly awkward. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the reasons and the evaluation could be smoother to improve the overall flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'subsidies', 'infrastructure development', and 'dependency'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'a plenty of reasons' (should be 'plenty of reasons') and 'the one's imported' (incorrect use of apostrophe). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your use of topic-specific collocations would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'buying local products help' (subject-verb agreement error: should be 'helps') and 'the flow of money remain' (should be 'remains'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary apostrophe in 'one's'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
