Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that local manufactured products are highly in demand by customers as compared to the imported goods from foreign countries. This is because of the price difference and flexibility of available products at stores. This essay believes that this phenomenon assists to increase the demand of local goods which would ultimately help to boost the economy.

There are multiple reasons why consumers prefer to purchase domestic items instead of international goods. The most significant aspect is price distinction, undoubtedly, the products which produced in the local area are cheaper because the government pays tariffs and other related expenses to complete the transportation process which leads to impact the pockets of customers when they buy imported goods. Moreover, there are less chances of local products to be out of stock due to their convenient access to the manufacturer companies which makes people more inclined towards domestic goods. For example, In India, in the last five years there is a massive change in the production of sugar as previously the local authority was dependent on China to import the sufficient amount of sugar but a recent report described that more people started the produced sugarcane in their farms and there is no more need to buy from other nation which helps in dropping the sugar price.

Buying local goods from shops is advantageous not only for consumers but also for the government. Growing requirements of the public will proliferate the demand of locally produced goods. This development would directly improve the production and provide assistance in terms of economical benefits. For instance, there is one renowned makeup store in India, Sephora which was unavailable few years ago but since its opened women forget to order international couriers.

In conclusion, buying more local goods is best for government and public which helps to boost the economy and provide goods at rate.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding tariffs is slightly inaccurate, as tariffs are typically applied to imports, not local production. The example of the makeup store is also confusingly linked to the topic of local versus imported goods, as it does not clearly illustrate a shift to local production. To reach a higher band, ensure that examples are logically sound and directly support the arguments provided. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have better summarised the main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'This is because of the price difference and flexibility of available products at stores.' Some transitions between sentences feel forced. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is always precise and clear.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'proliferate' and 'distinction', though these are not always used with complete precision. For example, 'price distinction' is not the most natural collocation for 'price difference'. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'the produced sugarcane' instead of 'producing sugarcane'. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using words in their correct grammatical form to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the products which produced in the local area' (passive voice error) and 'there is one renowned makeup store... which was unavailable few years ago' (article and preposition errors). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences and minor errors in sentence construction. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more error-free sentences and ensure that complex structures, such as relative clauses and passive constructions, are used accurately.
