Student answer (Band 6.0)

Among people, the trend of buying local products instead of imported ones is increasing. The main reason is that they want to promote local companies and to save money. I believe that this is a positive trend.

There are 2 main reasons of promoting local products are to increase the economy of the country and to buy less expensive items in order to save money. The things that are prepared locally are of low cost as compared to the imported ones as the travel expenses are excluded. Therefore, they become comperatively more cheaper than the ones coming from abroad with high cost spent on travel. For example, Sunsilk shampoo is prepared both locally and also imported from abroad. It is observed that the shampoo that was locally made is much cheaper than the one that was uk made with similar ingredients and results.

From my perspective, It is a positive trend as it will add to the economy of their own country. Another benefit is that It will encourage local menufacturers to increase their product range ,improve their quality even more and make them much more reasonable to buy. Additionally, we know that most of the people staying in our country belongs to the lower class families and can't afford costly items. So, now people can also save money by buying the cheaper products instead of the expensive ones.

In conclusion, many people are now prefering to buy local products over imported ones in order to increase the sale of local menufacturers and to save money. And in my opinion, this is a positive trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive or negative trend. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic benefits and cost savings, the arguments could be extended with more depth. For instance, the example of Sunsilk is relevant, but the explanation of why local production reduces costs could be more detailed. The response is consistent in its focus, but the supporting points remain at a somewhat superficial level, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a logical flow from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Therefore', 'For example', and 'Additionally', to link sentences. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'local manufacturers' and 'imported goods'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'comperatively', 'menufacturers', and 'prefering'. Additionally, the phrase 'more cheaper' is a grammatical error in collocation. To improve, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring accurate spelling. The range of vocabulary is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'There are 2 main reasons of promoting' should be 'reasons for promoting', and 'most of the people... belongs' should be 'belong'. The sentence 'Therefore, they become comperatively more cheaper' contains a double comparative error. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over subject-verb agreement and avoiding redundant comparatives will significantly improve your accuracy.
