Student answer (Band 6.0)

A substantial number of people are used to purchase goods which are manufactured locally instead of buying imported goods. This essay will highlight the negative impact on purchasing goods locally with relevant examples.

To begin with, growing number people constantly buy local product because imported goods are quite expensive. Middle class people struggle to buy expensive goods since high tariff is also applied along with custom charges. Which prevent people to experience good quality of products. For instance, in India there is majority of middle class people who still do not receive an opportunity to sleep comfortably on imported mattresses since high prices on such things is unfavorable to them instead they purchase locally manufactured mattress which lack in quality and comfort.

In account of perishable items, the most compelling reason is that people can become vitamin deficient if they avoid purchasing imported fruits.

Seasonal fruits which are often delivered from other countries have significant health benefits. Fruits such as Avocado and Dragon fruit have multiple nutrients; it supports heart health and much more. However, many people are stuck on basic local fruits like Apple and Banana which does not fulfill the nutrient requirement in the body. Therefore awareness should be spread on benefits of seasonal fruits, so people can gain knowledge and introduce these imported fruits in their diet. For example, in Canada, majority of perishable items are imported; many people are purchase these goods and consume in daily basis because there is awareness on mindful eating habits.

In Conclusion, if the high taxes and custom charges are waved off or atleast reduce it, then people can embark on purchasing imported goods efficiently. Moreover, health care campaign should also be conducted often for awareness in healthy and mindful eating. Therefore, can live a healthy lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for local purchasing and arguing that it is a negative trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. The argument regarding health and imported fruits is a bit tenuous, as it assumes local produce is inherently less nutritious, which is a questionable premise. While the position is clear, the supporting examples, such as the mattress example in India, are slightly underdeveloped and could be more effectively linked to the broader economic context. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are logically sound and fully explored with more nuanced reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'In account of', and 'In Conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'In account of'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is mostly effective, though some sentences feel disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would enhance the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'perishable items', 'nutrient requirement', and 'mindful eating'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'used to purchase' instead of 'accustomed to purchasing' and 'waved off' instead of 'waived'. The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to move into the higher bands. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'growing number people' (missing 'of'), 'Which prevent people to experience' (incorrect relative clause and infinitive usage), and 'many people are purchase' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and ensuring that complex sentence structures are grammatically sound.
