Student answer (Band 6.0)
Buyers prefer to purchase products manufactured locally rather than imported products due to inconsistency in the quality of goods manufactured abroad. This is a good sign as it will promote development in local market and force these foreign brands to improve their products.
Consumers are interested in buying goods which are produced in their region. This is because they have more trust on the quality of goods produced in local market. Goods that are imported lack quality and affect the health of local population. Buyers trust local sellers more as they can get their issues resolved personally. Some manufacturers have deals with local retailers who provide discounted products to local public. During festive seasons, consumers get offers which are much more attractive than the ones offered by foreign companies. For example, a local retail shop in my area offers a much better variety of foods at affordable prices.
This has a positive impact on the overall culture of that region as it promotes local development and provides competition to other areas to improve their local goods. This prevents monopoly of a single brand and improves the growth of local brands. When a monopoly happens the company controls the market and price which causes the buyer to suffer. This also leads to development of healthy and positive relationship between local buyers and sellers. Sometimes there are products such as food items which are only available in the local market as they are a delicacy of that area. This is another aspect where local markets beat the international markets. However, I also believe that international goods should be introduced to some extent as they bring innovation and new techonologies which can help local retailers and manufacturers.
In the end, I would like to say that consumers should prefer the local markets with a balance of exposure to imported goods.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as trust in local quality and the prevention of monopolies. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that imported goods 'affect the health of local population' is a strong assertion that lacks supporting evidence or explanation. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The conclusion provides a balanced view, which is appropriate for this type of task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a progression of ideas from the reasons for the trend to the impact and a final balanced conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'This is because', 'For example', and 'However', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different aspects of the prompt. Overall, the flow is easy to follow, though more sophisticated linking words would enhance the cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'monopoly', 'retailers', and 'innovation'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'have more trust on the quality' (should be 'trust in') and 'provide competition to other areas'. The word choice is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Spelling is mostly accurate, with only a minor slip like 'techonologies'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors. For example, 'This prevents monopoly of a single brand' (missing article 'a'), 'When a monopoly happens' (slightly awkward phrasing), and 'the growth of local brands' (could be more concise). Punctuation is generally correct, but the control over articles and prepositions is inconsistent. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
