Student answer (Band 5.0)
In today's world wants tend to overpower needs of a person. People are more aware about making the right decision for oneselfs. Specifically everyone has started to educate themselves more in regards to their health.
A lot of people have a firm believe that buying goods that are produced in their local area is a better choice to make than to buy it from the imported stores. While both arguments have merit, I believe as a consumer who buys goods regularly should opt for local area's produce.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 146 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the student identifies some reasons for buying local, such as freshness and affordability, the discussion is severely underdeveloped. The second part of the prompt, asking whether this is a positive or negative trend, is barely touched upon in the final paragraph, which is incomplete and lacks a clear, sustained position. To improve, the student must expand on each point with specific examples and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed in full, coherent paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas are fragmented and the final paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, which disrupts the flow of the argument. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes incorrectly, such as the abrupt transition 'Those' at the end of the third paragraph. The progression of ideas is not clear, and the lack of a proper conclusion makes the overall arrangement feel incomplete. To improve, the student should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'a lot of people' and 'a better choice to make' are simplistic. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'firm believe' (should be 'firm belief') and 'imported stores' (which is slightly unnatural). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic in depth. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to economics, consumer behavior, and sustainability, while ensuring correct word forms are used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'oneselfs' (incorrect pluralization of 'oneself'), 'pricing is comparitively affordable' (spelling error and awkward phrasing), and 'consumer try' (subject-verb agreement error). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in the final paragraph. To improve, the student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct pluralization, and the use of more complex sentence structures, such as subordinating clauses, while proofreading for basic spelling and grammatical accuracy.
