Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays with increasing trade wars all over the world, many people prefer to buy products from local suppliers while decreasing dependency on foreign goods. I consider this as a positive development in the society.
First and foremost, there are many small businesses that provide good quality products at reasonable price. With technology advancements and social media, business owners knows exactly what consumer demands are and what their country is importing. With all that being in mind, people start producing those goods at a local price point which gives them upfront advantage of entering into the market. From consumer's point of view, they prefer to buy locally is a great sign of trust and faith.
During recent times, tariffs has been imposed on many developing countries, which leads to significant rise in prices of goods. Eradicating dependency on these developed nation, and buying locally would save people a lot of money. With enhancements in education, youth is learning about the basics of imported goods versus local goods. They know the reason behind the volatile markets and how these things actually work in real life. In countries like India, government is promoting local businesses and startups to grow with new policies and subsidies which is quite compelling. They believe in 'Aatma-nirbhar Bharat' which translates to 'Independent India'.
To conclude, I strongly believe that people should insist buying local and promoting home-grown brands which would in return reduce our dependency on first world nations and would help build a strong nation which is full of prosperity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether this is a positive trend. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why people prefer local goods is brief, and the link between 'technology advancements' and 'local price points' is not fully explained. While the example of 'Aatma-nirbhar Bharat' is relevant, the essay would benefit from more detailed exploration of the economic or environmental implications of this trend to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'During recent times', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing tariffs to the role of education feels abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the central ideas are generally easy to follow, though the logical progression within paragraphs could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some topic-specific terms like 'tariffs', 'subsidies', and 'volatile markets'. However, there are some inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'local price point' and 'insist buying local' (should be 'insist on buying'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('business owners knows', 'tariffs has been imposed') and missing articles ('in the society', 'from consumer's point of view'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
