Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced locally rather than imported from other countries. There are several reasons for this change, and I believe it is a positive trend overall.
One major reason why people prefer local products is that they want to support businesses in their own communities. When consumers purchase locally produced goods, more money remains within the local economy, which can help create jobs and improve the income of local producers. Another reason is that local products are often fresher and more environmentally friendly. For example, locally grown vegetables do not need to be transported over long distances, so they usually reach customers more quickly and produce fewer carbon emissions. In addition, some people prefer local goods because they trust the quality and know how they are produced.
I consider this trend positive for several reasons. Firstly, buying domestic products can strengthen a country's economy by supporting small businesses and local farmers. Secondly, it can reduce dependence on imported goods. If a country produces more of its essential products itself, it may be less affected by international supply problems or sudden increases in import prices. Finally, choosing local products can benefit the environment because shorter transportation distances generally require less fuel.
For instance, in Nepal, many people have started buying locally produced vegetables, handicrafts and clothing instead of imported alternatives. This provides income for local farmers and entrepreneurs while also helping preserve traditional skills.
In conclusion, consumers are increasingly buying local goods because they want to support their communities, obtain fresher products and reduce environmental damage. In my view, this is a positive development because it benefits both the economy and the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have fully addressed all parts of the prompt. You clearly identified the reasons for the trend—economic support, freshness, and environmental benefits—and provided a clear, consistent position that the trend is positive. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the explanation regarding supply chain resilience and the specific example from Nepal, which adds depth to your argument. The response is balanced, and the conclusion effectively synthesizes your main points. To reach a higher band, you could further extend the discussion on the potential downsides or complexities of the trend to demonstrate a more nuanced critical analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'One major reason,' 'In addition,' 'Firstly,' and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. The transition between the reasons for the trend and your opinion on its impact is smooth. The paragraphing is appropriate, and referencing is clear throughout. The flow is natural, and the use of linking words is neither mechanical nor excessive, which contributes to a coherent and easy-to-follow argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'strengthen a country's economy,' 'international supply problems,' and 'preserve traditional skills' are used accurately and appropriately. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it lacks some of the more sophisticated or idiomatic collocations that would characterize a higher band. However, there are no significant errors in word choice or spelling, and your vocabulary is consistently appropriate for the context of the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
Your writing shows a good command of grammatical structures. You successfully use a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as 'If a country produces more of its essential products itself, it may be less affected by international supply problems.' The punctuation is accurate, and the sentence construction is generally error-free. The control over complex structures is consistent, and there are no errors that impede communication. To move toward a higher band, you could incorporate a wider variety of more complex, sophisticated sentence patterns, such as inverted structures or more varied subordinate clauses.
