Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a widespread trend of preferring locally manufactured products over imported products. This is mainly due to low price and a sense of freshness associated with the locally produced goods. I firmly believe that it is generally a positive trend because it helps the local economy to grow and far less fuel is required to transport products domestically than to import than to import them from aboad.

The primay reason why people prefer domestic products is because they are more affordable. As local manufacturers do not have to pay import duty nor have to worry about expensive transportation, which allow them to sell products at fairly lower price than imported goods. This difference in price naturally attract consumers towards the domestic products. Moreover, locally produced goods often have sense of freshness as these goods are produced and distributed instantly, further encouraging people to purchase local goods. For example, if vegetables which are grown locally are distributed quickly while they are fresh and at the lower price than imported ones, people will naturally gravitate towards these local vegetables.

I believe this is a negative trend as increased local product preference would benefit both the local economy and the environment. when people purchase domestic goods cash flow remains in the local economy hence it will boost country's income. Moreover, imported products have to be shipped across the world, consuming significant fuel and polluting enviroment which is not the case in the local products. As a result it will be good for both environment and country's economy.

To conclude, better price and sense of freshness of domestic products are the reasons for growing preference of local products. It is a positive development as it not only promotes local economy but is also better for environement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, identifying reasons for the trend and expressing a clear opinion. However, there is a significant contradiction in the essay: in the introduction, you state that you believe the trend is 'positive', but in the third paragraph, you explicitly write, 'I believe this is a negative trend'. This inconsistency confuses the reader and undermines the clarity of your position. While the ideas regarding economic benefits and environmental impact are relevant and supported with examples, the internal contradiction prevents the response from reaching a higher band score for task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For example', and 'To conclude' are used to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is hampered by the contradictory stance mentioned in the task achievement section. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with sentence flow, such as the repetitive 'than to import' in the introduction. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the logical flow is disrupted by the shift in your stated position.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'manufactured', 'affordable', 'import duty', and 'gravitate'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'primay', 'aboad', and 'enviroment', and occasional word choice issues, such as 'fairly lower price' instead of 'significantly lower' or 'a lower'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring accurate spelling would improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'which allow them' (should be 'which allows them'), 'have sense of freshness' (missing an article), and 'at the lower price' (unnecessary article). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing commas in complex sentences. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching the 7.0 band, which requires more frequent error-free sentences and better control over complex structures.
