Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been observed that people are significantly opting to buy product from their city or area instead of foreign or different cities. There are many causes for happening this behaviour and this is certainly a positive trend. I will discuss both causes and why this is a positive development in the ensuing paragraphs.

Out of all the reasons, the foremost reason is that, it offers convenience to public. To explain, if people buy product such as item of cloth or any food from their area it saves their time and effort. This is how they will get quick access to purchase things. For example, buying clothes from the own city or country compared to different area or country. Another reason is that, they are getting in reasonable or cheaper rates while, from the other area it might be expensive to get goods.

This trend is totally optimistic, as buying product from the same area provide support to the nations economy. When individuals are getting product from the own country their owners will get good amount of money. Due to this, it will forces to farmers or company to manufacture more goods for selling products. This is how economy develops and progress more. Although, buying product from other country provides more exposure and variety to the people rather than choosing to get from the local area.

To conclude, in the causes of buying things locally, it is more convenient for people as it saves time and their effort and product is more cheaper. Additionally, it provides positive outcomes because it is helpful for the nations economy and gives more chances to produce goods.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying locally and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding convenience is repetitive, and the explanation of economic benefits is slightly simplistic. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting examples are generic and lack depth. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with more specific real-world examples or deeper analysis of the economic and environmental implications of local consumption. The response covers all requirements but lacks the depth needed for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Out of all the reasons', 'Another reason is that', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the economic argument and the counter-argument in the third paragraph is slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'good amount of money', 'things', and 'product'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'forces to farmers' and 'product is more cheaper' (which is also a grammatical error). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to economics and consumer behavior, such as 'sustainability', 'local supply chains', or 'economic stimulation'. You should also focus on using more precise terminology rather than repeating general words like 'product' or 'area'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it will forces to farmers'), article usage (e.g., 'the own city'), and comparative structures (e.g., 'more cheaper'). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and comparative adjectives. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
