Student answer (Band 6.0)
The issue of buying local goods over imported goods has become increasingly important in recent years. This essay will examine the reason behind this trend and present my view point.
One key point to consider is that buying local products makes the local economy more stronger. This is because buying goods from local store helps local goods manufacturer to grow more on significant level and people can get better product or service. For example, buying fresh produces from local farmer makes the farmer grow in their business which ultimately contribute to local economy. Therefore, it is clear that consuming local product can help local economy to grow.
Another important aspect is imported goods can be more expensive. In other words, imported goods comes from overseas so they have to go through whole bunch of process such as safety check, quality check and so on. As a result, this process can add extra cost to the products. In addition to this, imported goods require different transportation such as air, rail or truck transport as they comes from foreign countries which directly adds extra cost to the product. A good example can be seen in imported cars from countries like Japan, before they come to their destination they go through long super long journey on cargo boat. And the delivery cost of those cargo boats adds up with the car value which makes them even more expensive. Thus, it shows that imported goods can be more expensive.
In conclusion, buying local goods boost the local economy and buying imported products costs extra money. It is clear that helping local economy to grow is definitely a positive trend in terms of buying goods.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive or negative trend. The ideas are relevant, focusing on economic growth and cost-effectiveness. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument about imported goods being more expensive is a bit repetitive and lacks nuance regarding quality or environmental impact. While the position is clear, the explanation could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. The essay covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is consistent with a mid-range performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One key point to consider', 'In other words', and 'In addition to this' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive markers to avoid a 'list-like' feel. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'local economy' and 'transportation'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'more stronger' (a double comparative), 'on significant level', and 'fresh produces' (should be 'produce'). The range is somewhat limited, and the student relies on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on collocations and more precise academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('imported goods comes', 'they comes') and article usage errors. The sentence 'before they come to their destination they go through long super long journey' is informal and grammatically clunky. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
