Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is irrefutable that more and more people are purchasing locally-produced items instead of imported products. While there are various causes behind this phenomenon such as supporting local entrepreneurs and purchasing qualited products on a reasonable cost, I believe that it is completely positive develpment due to its economic and environmental benefits.

There are several reasons why this is happening. The major one is that many governments have been encouraging the general public to support local vendors for recent years. As the higher authorities lately shifted their focus from importing foreign products to strengthening their own economies for manufacturing everything, consumers are also motivated to support their nation. For last few years, since many countries have been supporting the potential businessmen by providing financial assistance, the number of local businesses has increased rapidly due to which individuals got attracted towards buying local products more. Another factor behind this is reduced prices. As the businesses that operate locally, can easily offer best qualited product on cheaper price due to less operational expenses, customers get attracted towards their offers. For example, society members can buy fresh grocery from local market on less price as the price does not include additional cost of transportation. As a result, the demand of local items is increasing rapidly.

The rising demand of local products is a positive trend. The major advantage is contribution in gross domestic product of countries. When a country's import are more than its exports, it leads to trade deficit which put detrimental impact on country's national income. However, if the demand of imported goods reduces, the country's economies grow due to reduced cash outflows to international market and trade surplus. Moreover, the distance between local factories and markets is less which leads to reduced transportation. Not only this controls the inflation by reducing prices but also mitigates ecological problems such as pollution and excessive use of fuels. Consequently, it reinforces sustainable development in the community.

In conclusion, numerous factors have led to increased poplularity of local products such as he efforts of the states and market strategies of local business owners. I opine that the advantages of local purchases are quite significant as it leads to economic development while ensuring the safety of the eco-system.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing clear reasons for the trend and a distinct position on whether it is positive. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the economic arguments regarding trade deficits and the environmental benefits of reduced transportation. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific, real-world examples rather than general statements about 'society members' or 'local markets' to further strengthen the depth of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'The major one is', 'Another factor behind this', and 'Consequently' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel in the way points are introduced.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'trade deficit', 'sustainable development', and 'mitigates'. However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'qualited' instead of 'quality', 'develpment', and 'poplularity'. These errors do not impede communication but prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Improving the accuracy of word forms and ensuring correct spelling of common academic terms would significantly enhance this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over complex sentences, such as 'When a country's import are more than its exports, it leads to trade deficit which put detrimental impact on country's national income.' However, there are several grammatical slips, including subject-verb agreement issues ('country's import are', 'it leads to trade deficit') and missing articles ('on less price'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.
