Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for buying local and expressing a position on whether it is a positive or negative trend. However, the development of ideas is limited and lacks depth. For instance, the argument that local goods are 'more trustworthy' is not sufficiently explained with concrete examples. Furthermore, the argument that this trend is negative is underdeveloped and contains logical gaps, such as the claim that unemployment will increase because people stop making new goods. Additionally, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task completion score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical and sometimes confusing. While cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'Apart from this', and 'To conclude' are used, they are sometimes applied incorrectly or in a way that does not logically connect the sentences. For example, the transition 'On the other side that this is a negative development' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the logical progression. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's line of reasoning throughout the paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms such as 'goods', 'buy', and 'things'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an attempt to use precise collocations. Errors in word choice, such as 'the main affect would be seen' (should be 'effect') and 'unemployment will be increase', indicate a lack of control over word forms. The range is just sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as 'everyone's can easily buy' and 'imported good take will more time'. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. Frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense usage, such as 'some consumer are prefer', impede the clarity of the writing. The grammatical control is insufficient to support complex ideas effectively, and errors are frequent throughout the text.
