Student answer (Band 6.0)
It was a time when people tend to buy imported merchandise, but since the prime minister of India announced and appealed to buy make in India products there has been a notable increase in the amount of people who are choosing locally produced materials instead of buying foreign goods. The reason and examples will be discussed in the following essay.
People of India are fond of purchasing and using foreign items such as cosmetics, perfumes, cloths etc. The main reason for this is marketing strategy of international products. As we all know that people here would be easily influenced by celebrities and their lifestyles, larger amount of teenagers follows their daily skincare or haircare routine which celebrities post on their social media. Moreover, every famous international brand advertises their products by the help of actors and actresses which largely influences the younger generation.
In recent times, it has been seen that people have started buying domestic products more as compared to last few years. The reason behind this new trend is our beloved prime minister. During an interaction with students he requested to buy local products under the scheme 'Vocal for Local' which will empower the domestic business and will gradually support the GDP of our nation. In addition, he also appealed to the youth and encouraged them to support 'Make In India' project which includes rural developments, women empowerment and much more.
In conclusion, it is a positive trend because it will support domestic business and which will eventually support the growth of the nation.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the writer's opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the reasons for the shift toward local goods are clearly linked to government initiatives like 'Vocal for Local', the discussion on why people previously preferred imported goods is a bit narrow, focusing primarily on celebrity influence. The conclusion is quite brief and lacks a summary of the main points, which limits the depth of the response. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the broader economic or environmental implications of buying local to provide a more comprehensive argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother, and the use of linking words like 'Moreover' and 'In addition' is standard. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences occasionally feels disjointed. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'merchandise', 'empower', and 'domestic business' appropriately. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'cloths' (which refers to pieces of fabric) instead of 'clothing' (the general term for garments). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid repeating basic words. Focus on using more precise terminology to convey your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'It was a time when people tend to buy' contains a tense inconsistency, and 'the amount of people' should be 'the number of people'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'by the help of' instead of 'with the help of'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
