Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely acknowledged that the number of buyers has been accelerating towards purchasing the items made in local area instead of imported ones. The fundamental reasons are affordability and convenient nature of the products that increase the sales of the local products. The question is roaming about whether it is positive or negative approach ; however, my understanding lies with the positive trend.

Commencing with the most salient reason why the popularity of the items ,made in local regions is incredibly high among the individuals. The prices are much lesser which lure the people mainly marginalized category of citizens ,who cannot afford the expensive products due to the low income. Moreover, this is the best way to curb the problem of economic downturn that arises by getting the goods from the another countries. To illustrate this, a recent research conducted in the UK university concluded that the 60 % of sales attained from the another countries that impacted the economy of the India in 2020 which resulted in making the companies more unsuccessful.

The another underlying factor is the easy access of acquiring the products. Rather than purchasing imported goods in the Shopping malls that requires a lot of time as there is a long queue in every store , local areas stores give more authenticity in the time instead of wasting the precious time of the people. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying local and the opinion on whether it is a positive trend. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the point about affordability is clear, the argument regarding economic downturn is confusingly phrased and lacks logical clarity. The example provided about a UK university study impacting India is vague and does not effectively support the point. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the position. To improve, ensure that each paragraph contains a clear, well-explained argument supported by a logical example, and always complete your final paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For example, 'The another underlying factor' is an incorrect use of a cohesive device. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors. While the essay has a basic structure, the lack of a completed conclusion and the repetitive nature of some transitions (e.g., 'In this way') limit the overall coherence. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would improve the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of unnatural collocations, such as 'convenient nature of the products' and 'the another countries'. The student attempts to use some academic vocabulary, but the word choice is often slightly off-target, such as 'roaming about' instead of 'revolving around' or 'attained from' instead of 'sourced from'. To reach a higher band, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise terminology to express complex ideas, rather than relying on basic descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include incorrect article usage (e.g., 'the India', 'the another countries'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'human are fast'), and awkward phrasing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like articles and plurals would be highly beneficial.
