Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, government is asking their citizens to buy local items to support their industry. It contribute to improve their economy. Many individuals around the world are supporting this idea and gave up on buying foreign items. This development interrupt the supply chain system. From my perspective, it is positive development for the nation.

To begin with, buying local food items support their farming industry which indeed give motivation to farmers and producers. Government is providing an opportunity to their local dealer to expand more. It is good step to create economic balance as money are flowing inside the country. It allow companies to generate more revenue. Local seller are highly benefited with this development when locals buy their products. Eventually, it creates more jobs inside the country and this agenda fulfill the requirements of government and locals at the same time.

Imported goods are very expensive due to their transportation cost and additional taxes which is unaffordable for poor communities. Due to economic crisis, purchasing power has reduced drastically. It triggered additional financial burden for some family although some people would love to try but they can not afford it. Additionally, local goods usually available in low price. Therefore, people avoid paying extra for the same products. Many government has started this campaign to support their citizens and receive the positive response and support from their own people. Recently, make in Canada campaign has begun and government receive very positive response.

To conclude, it is positive development for the country but it create imbalance in the society as wealthy communities often have high purchasing power.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for choosing local goods and the evaluation of this trend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding economic benefits is mentioned in the introduction and then restated in the second paragraph without significant expansion. While the position is clear, the supporting points lack depth and specific examples, relying on general statements like 'money are flowing inside the country'. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations of how local production impacts specific sectors or social dynamics, rather than repeating the same economic points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'To begin with' is used, but the subsequent paragraph lacks a strong concluding link to the next point. Additionally, there are issues with referencing; in the sentence 'Government is providing an opportunity to their local dealer', the pronoun 'their' lacks a clear antecedent. While the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and occasional awkward transitions limits the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms such as 'good step', 'very expensive', and 'very positive response'. There are also some collocation errors, such as 'give motivation' (should be 'provide motivation' or 'encourage') and 'local dealer' (which usually refers to a specific car or equipment seller, rather than general producers). To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to economics and trade, such as 'domestic industry', 'purchasing power', or 'supply chain logistics'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('government is asking', 'money are flowing', 'Local seller are'), article usage ('in low price' instead of 'at a low price'), and pluralisation ('Many government has started'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are foundational elements that currently prevent the essay from achieving a higher score.
